Bats of Malawi

Rhinolophidae - Horseshoe bats

This Old World family is represented by just one genus, Rhinolophus. All species have a complicated noseleaf consists of several parts which is important in the emission of an echolocation signal, and is useful in identifying the species.

All members of this family have broad wings, allowing them to manoeuvre through cluttered habitats such as dense vegetation.
